Green School Notice – Applying for our Water Flag!

IMG_5635

This year we are applying for the Water Flag.

The children are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles to school.

In class we are learning all about the environment, our local River, the Water Cycle, and the impact of pollution on our Rivers and Seas.

Some children have designed posters to encourage us to stop wasting water.

Tips include:

  • Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth
  • Have a shower instead of a bath
  • Have shorter showers

Tommy, our caretaker, takes the Water Meter readings every week.  He is looking after leaks and making sure everything in the school is in working order.

He tells us our water usage is very good compared to the national average.  So well done everyone!

We are also doing very well with the bins; separating rubbish from recycling.  Children are encouraged to bring their rubbish straight home helping us keep St. Mary’s litter free.

Our school garden is a credit to our school, especially Ms. Lanigan.  It’s a very tranquil place with an outdoor classroom and lots of planting.  A little bit of paradise on our doorstep!

Well done everyone for the continued effort to make St. Mary’s a greener, cleaner and more environmentally friendly school!
