On Friday 13th of June at 8am we all met in our classroom for our school trip. By 8:15 we were on our way to Cork. The bus journey took two hours. When we got to Fota Wildlife Park we went straight in to the park. We ate a snack and looked at the meerkats. Then we met our tour guide Ciara. She showed us the ostriches first. She told us that the ostrich has the longest neck of all the birds. After that she showed us an ostrich egg. I thought it looked like a football! Then we saw the giraffes and the zebras. After that we looked at the red panda’s cage. Ciara told us that he was sleeping and that he would wake up at 5 o’clock! There were cheetahs beside the red panda’s cage. Ciara told us that cheetah’s can run very fast (100 km/ hour) but that they are not that strong. We also saw kangaroos, wallabies, maras and lemurs. We saw penguins but they did not live on ice. When we entered the tropical house it was really hot. Ciara explained it had to be hot because the animals in there were used to hot weather. We felt a boa constrictors skin too! When we came out of the tropical house we saw a peacock. Then we saw tigers. I had never seen a real life tiger before. Then we went for a little walk and we saw a seal and an eagle. Finally we went to the gift shop. I had a great day.

I woke up at 5am on the 13th of June for my school trip. When I got there I was greeted by my friend and the first thing I said to him was ‘It’s gonna be a long journey because all I have is my d.s!’ At about 8.10 we left the school. I was sitting beside Fionn. We swapped stuff. I gave him my d.s. and he gave me his tablet for the journey. Unfortunately, his tablet ran out about an hour through so I played multiplayer Simpsons. Finally we made it to Fota around 10.30am. We walked for about 5 minutes and then we were at the entrance. When we got inside Ms. Tyrrell told us we could have a small bit of lunch. I sat on a ledge next to the meetkats and spider monkeys. The spider monkeys were really acrobatic and the meerkats just stayed very still. After that we saw the ostriches. Some thought that their eggs looked like footballs. Then we saw the giraffes. Our tour guide Ciara told us about the tallest giraffe ever at Fota,‘Ed’ After that we saw the zebras. I think she said they could run over 50 Km/hour. Then we saw the oryx. They looked like unicorns. Podge actually thought they were unicorns at the start but then Ciara explained that they were oryx. Next we saw cheetahs. Ciara told us that they camouflage well with their terrain, Next we saw the red panda. It is really cute but we only got a glimpse because it was asleep. Next we saw the wallabies. They looked just like a joey (a baby kangaroo) After that we saw maras and lemurs and then we went into the tropical house. There were clown fish, chameleons, forgs and much much more to see in the tropical house. Then out of nowhere we heard a noise. It was a peacock! We all crowded around it. It jumped and flew up to the roof and gave us a fright! We kept walking until we got to a mini woodland area. We caught some insects and spiders using a pooter. After that we saw penguins. Ciara told us that only 3 of the 18 types of penguin actually live on ice! Just about then the tourist train came around and we all did the Mexican wave.

On the way home the whole bus had a singing competition. The boys won because we outnumbered the girls. We sang ‘Wake Me Up’, ‘Hey Brother’, ‘You’ll Never Beat the Pretzels’, ‘The Ducky Song’ and ‘Pompeii’. Anyway I loved my school trip!

It was Friday 13th of June, 2014. School trip day! Guess where we are going? We’re going to Fota Wildlife Park! I can’t wait. I’m very excited. I woke up at 6:30am as the bus is leaving at 8:05 or so… It was a very long journey to Cork. It was a two hour bus journey.

We saw amazing animals at Fota. We also had a really lovely tour guide. Her name was Ciara. She was very nice. She told us all about the animals. One of my favourite animals was the giraffe. They are extremely tall. The meerkats were so cute. One meerkat was on watch as the others slept. We then went on a scavenger hunt in the forest. We had to use a pooter to collect the bugs! Ew!

Another favourite part of the trip was when we saw the flamingos and of course the ICE-CREAM at the end of the day. It was a very hot day. It felt like 30 degrees. We still had a good time.

I loved our Fota Wildlife trip and I hope everyone else did too!
