A Memorable Day

By Emily Cairns

Wow!It has been a hectic week for St. Mary’s National School!Something truly amazing happened!President Higgins and his wife,Sybina came to their school! They arrived at 2 o ‘ clock on Wednesday the 29th of May 2013.the fifth class pupils held the Guard of Honour for their guests, and might I say, they did it wonderfully!President Higgins and Sybina came to officially unveil the school’s newest piece of artwork called “Journeys”. This piece of is a sculpture of the map of Thomastown and surrounding areas.

The sculpture is made out of Kilkenny Limestone. It was sculpted by a brilliant artist name Michelle Byrne. The whole school took part in the project too. The school orchestra, lead by Jackie played brilliantly and the choirs, one lead by Mr. Brennan and one lead by Mr. Reade were both brilliant too. There was also Indian dancing by Leah, Irish dancing by Ellen, Michelle, Ava, Orla, Rachel and Mirium, and a poem read by Caoimhe. Before the stone was unveiled, Mr. Higgins shouted “Are you ready?”. “Yes!” shouted the crowd. When the stone was unveiled the whole school clapped and cheered. Then Bishop Freeman blessed the stone. When President Higgins and Sybina were leaving, a lot of people got a chance to shake their hands. I will never forget tat day,I don’t think anyone will. It was such a memorable day!
