Boy’s School Badminton, May 2013

On Thursday 2nd of May, St Mary’s boy’s badminton teams, A and B, took part in the schools badminton competition.

The A team consisted of Peter McDonald, Cian McCormack, Jack Kerins and Peter Connellan. They won all their group matches, beating Kilkenny Project School 6 – 0, Muckalee 5 – 1, and Carrigeen B   6 – 0. This brought them to the semi-final where they had a comfortable win over the Model School beating them 5-1. They faced Carrigeen A in the final which proved to be a much tougher contest. This match finished 3 games all but St. Mary’s clenched the title by 3 aces, 104 – 101.

The B team consisted of Eddie Donnelly, Jack Barcoe, Gordon Whelan, Darragh Skehan and Jack Skehan. In their group were Clara A, Tullahought A and Carrigeen A. St Mary’s drew 3 – 3 to Clara A, beat Tullahought A 6 – 0 and last to Carrigeen A 0 – 6. This placed St Mary’s second in their group where they went on to play Johnswell A in the shield semi-final. They overcame Johnswell A by 4 games to 2 and so progressed to the final against Kilkenny Project School. This match finished 3 all but once again St Mary’s came out on top by 1 ace.

Overall, it was a victorious day for St Mary’s boy’s badminton teams, where they were seen to win all around them.
